Mini Blog: Sonic ‘fans’ are starting to bug me.
Added: July 13th, 2010 in: Community, Opinion, Sonic, Updates | No Comments »

So I just listened Fastfeet Media Episode (Gratz to Sound Reaper & Knukxy) And i heard one of the guest say ‘Sonic 4 is fucked because of Dimps’ I’m pretty sure Dimps Made the sonic advance games and the rush games and they were classic sonic games.

Granted Sonic has had a bad few years with Sonic 2006 etc but can’t we as sonic fans have a little more faith in the game developers? Does this give us a reason to say ‘the new sonic game will be crap’ before you have even played it for yourself just because Sonics last few games weren’t as good as the 2D ones or Sonic Adventure 1 and 2? Look at Sonic 4, SEGA are going out of their way to make the perfect Sonic game for his fans and we still have people boycotting it for reasons I can’t understand. SEGA even went as far as putting an option to play as the modern Sonic or the Classic just because a number of fans are complaining about his eye colour.

It was a just as Katio_Kun said on RadioSEGA: ‘why do these people complain about something so much when no-one is forcing them to like it? If they don’t like how Sonic has been over the past few years why don’t they just move on and stop bugging everyone?’ No one if forcing you to like sonic, so if you don’t have faith in the game’s developers and always expect the worst in his new game’s you might as well move on.

As for me, I see new Sonic game, I wait for Sonic game, I buy the Sonic game, I play the Sonic game then I decide if it’s a good game or not instead of judging it on is announcement.
Please note this does not apply to every sonic fan. I’m very aware there are a lot of sonic fans out there that don’t act like this. If I have offended you then I am sorry. There’s a topic to found at RadioSEGA about this and I will also open one on the forums here. Also read Mr.Streams blog about Sonic Colours which is found on this website to. Thanks for reading as always!

Growing up with SEGAWhen we were kids, we either grew up with SEGA or Nintendo (or if you were lucky both) so you grew up with either Sonic or Mario.

Me? I grew up with SEGA and as I was quite young I can only remember up to five game’s I owned on the mega drive, one of which I don’t think is well known within the SEGA community. You may have already guessed this, but I got into gaming thanks to the SEGA mega drive which in sense was the first console I owned but you can’t own a console you can’t play at the age of Zero…

Eggman is in town with his brand new amusement park. What’s wrong with that?

SonicColoursUK

It’s difficult when you’re old(er), jaded and a little too cynical to write enthusiastically about what is essentially a kids game, but think back to 1991 when you had just got a Mega Drive/Master System for your birthday or Christmas. You got Sonic the Hedgehog as it was part of the bundle. Do you remember your first impression? Were you hooked from day one? Of course you were and for good reason.

Dazzled by face-paced, colourful game-play, your impression of how the game ’should be’ hasn’t shifted, progressed, moved with the times. However, you’ve been keen to embrace other advances in video gaming, but advances in Sonic games have been over scrutinised. Yes, some control issues and a few plot flaws may have not impressed, but I admire f*cking with the status quo by trying out new ideas. The idea of a blue hedgehog in armor wielding a sword is amusing. A were-hog? Not a bad idea either.

astro boy

An analogy: Osamu Tezuka (creator of Astro Boy) used his characters as stars, actors, a cast for his stories (Star System). While initially the aim of the game was all about speed (not a bad idea itself), the idea becomes stale over time so it’s only natural to try out different ideas even if it’s only a financially motivated decision.

If you’re an eternal kid, like me, you’ll be looking forward to this latest game. Let’s regurgitate: Sonic finds himself in an amusement park run by our lovable (maybe that’s too strong) yet silly evil overlord, Eggman. What’s this? Eggman has enslaved an alien race, Wisps, and is using their colourful energy for his own malicious dream, a mechanical world?! Cue our good guy, Sonic, he’s come to kick Eggman’s ass and free the aliens. It’s a simple yet worthy story with enough plot for kids to understand and enough colour to keep certain ‘law-abiding’ adults entertained.

Et voilà, this game is for Nintendo Wii and DS and its’ release is slated for Christmas. I must ask you again: at what time of year did you get your first Sonic game?

What would Sonic’06 be like if made correctly?

Sonic The Hedgehog 2006, a game which got widely panned by critics everywhere including a large amount of sonic fans. What was wrong with this game exactly? Type Sonic’06 into your search engine and you will most likely find out what was so bad about it, but most of you reading this already know how much of a mess the game was in. Besides its long list of flaws the game did have colourful environments and a great soundtrack which the sonic series is well known for and it was carried on over to Sonic Unleashed. Yojiro Ogawa (Sonic Team producer) commented on the state of Sonic’06 and said the following:

“The reason why we probably ended up with what we see today, involves a lot of reasons. One is that we did want to launch the title around Christmas, and we had the PS3 launch coming up, but we had to develop for Microsoft’s 360 at the same time and the team had an awful lot of pressure on them. It was very hard for the team to try and see how we were going to come out with both versions together with just the one team. It was a big challenge.”

Introduction and thoughts on Sonic 4 Soundtrack.
Added: May 16th, 2010 in: Community, Sonic, Updates | 4 Comments »

Hello! I’m Gonic and I’ll be helping FastFeet with the website. I’m very happy to be helping in a sonic/sega community! For my first post I am going to talk (or type in the literal sense) about what I think of the Sonic the Hedgehog 4 soundtrack.

As we all know Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode 1 is meant to reboot the sonic series back to its glory days of the Sega Mega Drive (Genesis for some people who may be reading this). To my surprise this also included the soundtrack for the game too. I was very happy to hear this as I was a huge fan of all the old chip tune sonic music. But have now listened to the sonic 4 soundtrack, I’m not at all impressed with most of the songs on their besides Splash Hill Zone Act 1 and the Invincible tune. They lack the impact all the original sonic game’s had as the music from the game’s would remain in your head for a fair amount of time. Unfortunately the sonic 4 soundtrack does not have this impact as nearly all the songs are forgettable which is very surprising for a sonic game. Remember this is how I see the soundtrack, you may think differently than I do but overall I was not at all impressed with sonic’s 4 soundtrack.

Thank you for reading! :)

Sonic & Sega All Stars RacingAvailable: Out Now!
Released on: Wii, DS, PC, PS3, Xbox 360
Played on: Xbox 360
Age Rating: 7+
Publisher: SEGA
Developer: Sumo Digital

Sega and indeed Sonic Team have tried a few times before to deliver a racing experience to fans of Sonic, looking back there’s Sonic Drift 1 & 2 as well as the well known Sonic R on the Sega Saturn. They were great to play in their own right but the experience was always cut short one way or another and only in Sonic Drift did we actually drive vehicles. Now we have Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing (ASR) following on from Sumo Digitals successful Sega All Stars Tennis released a couple of years ago and surprise! they’ve also been developing this title too.

Before I even begin reviewing ASR, I’m going to address the ‘Mario Kart’ issue. Mario Kart has created this benchmark for other kart racing games ever since it was released back on the SNES all that time ago. Since other Sonic kart racing games have been released they’re been compared to Mario Kart in some respects; that’s largely because in our heads Mario & Sonic are old school rivals and every time a Sonic racing game comes out it’s a reflex to compare them side by side it would seem. But it’s somewhat inevitable that these games are going to feature quite a lot of similar elements such as a wide variety of tracks, characters, vehicles and so on. Quite frankly what matters to me and should matter to most of you is how the game plays – so for the love of god enjoy it as its own game then pass on your own judgement. With that out of the way, onwards we go.

Forgive me father, for I have sinned. I am not the good catholic boy you think I am. I have strayed from the flock and enjoyed it spending the last decade consumed in the world of Phantasy Star and partying, pausing only to sleep, learn Japanese and check out some handheld Sonic games; Sonic Advance and Sonic Rush being great but let us sweep Sonic Battle under the carpet or lock it away never to be seen.

Upon my return to Sonic, I discovered Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing and have enjoyed every second of it. I’ve even got the family involved on wireless DS multiplayer, yes, the family. I know it’s like every other party game out there – Sonic has the coolest car I’ve seen for a while. Shadow and his shady past (hur hur) sports a motorcycle that is pretty nifty on the narrower Samba de Amigo based courses. However, my favourite has to be Ulala who doesn’t quite drive but hovers about 2 feet off the ground with hilarious consequences.

If you’re looking for an alternative to actual family feuds, beat the crap out of each other playing Sonic & SEGA All-Star Racing!
